Elective presented at the 2021 Priscilla & Aquila annual conference.
Gospel opportunities amongst refugees, migrants, short term workers and students studying in Australia abound! This elective looks at snapshots of such ministry, both fruitful and fragile. How does a church establish an English language program, and what other ways can we serve people who have English as an additional language? We explore briefly the pros and cons of teaching mixed gender groups, and also consider how to read the Bible one-to-one with a learner of English. Examples are drawn mostly from St Andrew’s Cathedral and, at times, contrasted with ministries of suburban and interstate churches.
This seminar will be of interest to people considering starting an English ministry at their church, or who want to explore ways to evangelise and disciple learners of English.
